Final Poster 4/11

For my homework I decided to look into Prezi and Weebly. First I connected to the Prezi link. I was immediately interestested because I could connect to my Facebook to create an account. This makes Prezi really easy to get into. From there I explored how to get started. This process took me a little time to understand, but after understanding how to use Prezi I came to a con. Prezi is great for making a standard PowerPoint interesting, but it can be quiet difficult and complex. On the other had I started using Weebly. Similar to Prezi, I could connect to my Facebook in order to create an account. I also quickly realized Weebly is much more organized and business oriented. Weebly is easier to use but for my assignment I will use Prezi, because it is more efficient for the task.

Finding Statistics and Government Information 3/14

I decided to use a government source website. When I went to the link “ http://www.usa.gov/ “ I searched the key words of my topic “school shooting.” It was then I realized that USA.gov was a database for government operated websites. When I typed in the key words a list of official websites popped up. I personally felt that the FBI website was best fit for my topic, because genocide and shootings are usually a federal matter. The site gave me accurate information that has not yet been published in a book or encyclopedia due to how recent these events have occurred. There was also information that I had yet to discover. As a matter of fact The site gave me statistics that would complement a sub-note in my topic. Overall this site has helped me the most out of them all, and I plan on using it again in the future.

For my research i started off using Reddit, because it is a source i have never used. I typed in the the key words "school shooting," and immediately it brought up the horrific elementary school shooting that occurred in sandy hook Connecticut. I would have to say this is a source i would go to for everyone's opinion. This style of news is very similar to twitter. Althought this was a helpful web page i do not see myself using it in everyday life.


Personally I usually use social media to keep in touch with friends, im not really interested in what people post every second of the day

"Presearch" 2/14

I feel that the "presearch" process we did in class has helped me get my topic just where i need it in order to give my point of view on the topic across to my audience. Thanks to the speaker who came in fro\m the library staff\, I now know more into detail about out library. This has made it easier to find book, encyclopedia, journals, novel, and etc. The book I am currently using in the library is Attitudes, personality, and behavior [electronic resource] by Ajzen, Icek. My current topic question is , "What causes an individual to commit a mass shooting such as the one that occured at Sandy Hook Elementary ? "

Research Process 2/12

While doing this research project i have learned a much better way to research. I also learned how to use Galiao to a much greater extent. It has also helped me in my other classes with researching topics and citing the correct soureces. There are not many things i am confused about, because we go into detail and walk through the instuctions several times during class. I dont really feel we need to cover any of the instructions any more than we already have, because we have covered everything in great detail.

Special Collections

My current topic is based on stereotype, so I do not exactly need a special collection. Most of the work and information I need will come from interviews. I will interview the race or gender I choose to base the stereotype on.

Refined Research 1/31

After all my research at this point in time i have come up with my main idea on a topic and i feel that The Sandy Hook shooting will remain my key topic. This will be great because it is current. It also brings back up the misuse of guns which was brought up after a man by the name of James Holmes terrorized a Colorado movie theater killing twelve people. This opened the eyes of our president Barack Obama. When i went through the schools catalog I found that the word genocide was great. The thing about the schools catalog is that it also suggested social conditions, prevention, social aspects, violence, and psychological aspect. All of these were great key words that worked, but when I searched the key word, Mass shooting, nothing came up. If i were too look at a primary source I could easily look up the newspaper  the day after the shooting, because the accident is so recent.

Information Source 1/29

When thinking of information sources for my topic, i reflected back on the group assignment we did in class. There are a variety of information sources such as books, encyclopedias, databases, bibliographies, textbooks, eBooks, internet,and even search engines. If anything i would feel most comfortable using the book or the Galileo search engine. Galileo has hundreds and thousands of official databases. I also feel like the problem with genocide is the mental, unstable mine of the gun holder who commits the act. This brings me to research keywords such as sociology and physiology. The criminal may have social issues or show traits of his unstable condition, which could stop the genocide before it were to ever occur .

Key Research Homework 1/24

Today in class while speaking on finding a topic I thought of the key terms i should use. The key words i chose were genocide  Gun Laws, and the First Amendment. I also felt that the who, what, where, when, and why questions really broadened my approach on the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting accident that occurred in Connecticut. I will also use the, "CRAAAP," we reviewed and discussed in groups earlier in this month. The more reliable the source, the better i will obtain "pure" or non bias information. The topic I have chosen is also interesting because it is recent, and puts a question on gun laws, which is major to any American.The evidence has not yet been fully clear, so I plan to read and review the newspapers, interviews, and the live new when the accident first occurred. I was also thinking about just doing Gun Laws in general, and refer to all the Mass murders that have happened over the last century.

End of course 1/17

By the end of this course i would like to learn more about the government. Im pretty sure at some point in time the government has lied or covered up an idea or event. There has been many speculations about the death of JFK, the plains crashing into the twin towers on 9-1, and the most recent is the sandyhook mass shooting of elementary kids. i feel that these actions should be exposed.

Major Purchase 1/15

When I reflect back on a major purchase i have made, I think of the time I bought my mini fridge for my college dorm room. When I first started my search there was a great variety of large corporate stores advertising these products because they knew college students were preparing for the upcoming semester. First i started off looking at the prices of the mini refrigerators from most expensive to cheapest. I soon came to realize that there were more components of buying a fridge so i went online to the vendors website that produced that particular refrigerator, and discovered i could get a 2 year warranty with my purchase which was better than buying a cheaper refrigerator that would not last more than two years.

Homework 1/10

My favorite part of the Ingram Library is the White Board wall it gives you the opportunity to put your work on the board,and have all your thoughts in front of you while problem solving.The wall also seperates a classroom with the rest of the library. I felt as if this was a unique feature that you will not find in most libraries. My least favorite part of the Library is Organization I feel that there should be more room for people to get study groups together other than the main floor. It seems like everything was crammed. One thing for certain is I am still learning how to use all the features and advantages the library can provide. I also think there should be more library assistants roaming around. I know for myself I would rather be hands, face to face with a librarian than relying on the technology of a computer.

Today in class we discussed our position on how we feel about digital new media. It was brought to my attention that books are rarely being used by our generation.This was no surprise to me due to the over use of Twitter, Facebook, Google..etc  I will look into using more book resourses from the Ingram Library in my future assignments
